The city of St. Louis is home to a wide variety of attractions, restaurants, and events for people of all ages. Being born and raised in St. Louis, I feel an immense amount of pride in my city and our accomplishments. We are a tight-knit community that can make a big city feel small. Speaking of small, our city has a plethora of small businesses, with some of the best being restaurants. I have chosen to create STL Eats to bring attention to these local restaurants that are often overlooked by visitors and even locals. As a city that is known for coming together to be some of the nation’s best sports fans, we should be able to come together to show these restaurant owners our support as well.

Our growing culinary scene has put us on the map for favorites like toasted ravioli and frozen custard, but there is so much more to us than just that (although we all love a good T-Rav). The streets of the Hill are filled with the best classic Italian restaurants in the state. The Soulard district is known for its barbecue restaurants. Downtown St. Louis is known for having the best restaurants to catch the big game on TV while you enjoy some classic bar food. I could go on and on forever, but I don’t want to spoil what is in store for you!

However, many of these small businesses are desperate for help now more than ever. The pandemic has made it nearly impossible to make a profit anywhere near where many had projected. With new mandates and restricted capacity and operating hours comes fewer opportunities to make a profit. As a server at a local restaurant myself, I see how much our owners are struggling to pay bills and provide for their staff and families. I also know first-hand that everyone at every level in the food industry is suffering a drastic pay cut during this unprecedented time. I hope you will follow me along this journey of restaurant spotlights and consider keeping these local eateries in mind next time you go out to eat or order some carryout, I know they would appreciate your business.
